Exhibitionism is the act of gaining sexual pleasure from being observed. Those who engage in exhibitionism are called exhibitionists.
What is an Exhibitionist?
An exhibitionist is an individual who becomes sexually excited from being watched. They may want to be observed doing things such as simple tasks, getting undressed, or having sex.*
More Things that can excite exhibitionists:
- Posting sensual photos/videos of themselves
- Showing affection in public
- Wearing revealing outfits
- Having a voyeur check them out
Those who engage in exhibitionism usually do not want the watcher to join. The thrill is in being watched.
It’s important to remember that even though exhibitionists wish to be watched; it doesn’t mean they want to know that they sexually arouse you. More often than not, they don’t. They don’t hate the idea that it could be happening, but it is rarely the main goal or the goal at all in this type of play.
Exhibitionists want to show off to others, but that doesn’t mean they have a desire to engage or listen to the watcher’s fantasies.
*Exhibitionists do not want to be observed by just anyone. The person/s observing will have the consent of the exhibitionist.
What Do They Get out of It?
There are many reasons why someone might engage in exhibitionism such as they:
- Like the thrill of getting away with it
- Enjoy the idea of someone “unknowingly watching them”
- Are fond of getting attention
Most of these reasons play off different taboos, and that forbidden quality excites many people. But, there are other reasons that tend to go overlooked.
For others, exhibitionism grants them comfort. The look but don’t touch nature of the kink offers a stress free experience with no obligations. It allows you to fully engage with pleasure and your body, by yourself. With the added bonus of still being able to be admired. This isn’t only comforting but confidence boosting. It’s especially great for those who don’t like physical touch.
Final Thoughts
What someone wants out of exhibitionism can be complicated. Each individual desires something different, so it’s important to discuss their wishes with them personally. Exhibitionism is easy to misunderstand and if it’s not practiced carefully it’s easy to violate the boundaries of others and yourself.
So, like all things in kink, make sure those around you are being considered. And, play responsibly!
