Gooning and Edging are terms that are so similar, that it’s hard for people not to think that they are the same. But, they’re not.
Edging refers to the action of ceasing physical stimulation right before orgasm to prolong pleasure. In contrast, gooning refers to the euphoric mental state that is achieved through the prolonged engagement and/or viewing of sexually erotic materials or situations.
Edging is a major part of gooning, but it is not all gooning is.
What is Gooning?
Gooning is more of a state of mind than it is something you do. Gooning describes the mental state during sexual excitement when your mind goes into a trance and the only thing that becomes important is pleasure. It’s common to experience drooling, a complete lack of thought, and pure erotic bliss.
The goal of gooning is to continuously tease yourself (over a short or long period of time), or be teased until you experience a state of thoughtlessness or rather you become a ‘goon’. This kink is commonly done during masturbation.*
So, in short; when someone says they’re a Gooner, or gooning; they’re going to sexually arouse themselves into stupidity.
*There was some discourse on whether gooning was exclusively a solo activity or not. But, in my opinion, it’s not. I’ve definitely gooned by myself and with a partner.
What is Edging?
Edging is the act of bringing your physical body to the brink of an orgasm and then denying it over and over again in order to achieve a stronger orgasm later or extend play time (for those who want to last longer).
How do they Differ?
Gooning focuses on the mental act of arousal. The point of gooning is to get yourself in such a state of euphoria that you turn into a “goon”; there is no intention of cumming or goal to build to it. It’s purely about achieving the “blank mind” mental state where only pleasure matters.
Edging, on the other hand, focuses more on elongating physical sensation before an orgasm to last longer or achieve a stronger release.
When someone is gooning, their goal is to achieve a euphoric trance-like state. When someone is edging the goal is to physically bring themselves to the edge.
Edging focuses more on suppressing physical orgasm, while gooning is all about the mental pleasure.
Final Thoughts
Gooning and Edging are similar, but they are not the same. In short; one is mental, and one is physical. Edging can result in the “goon” state, but not all edging is gooning.
