How My First Sex Toy Almost Ruined My Love For Them

Last Updated on July 28, 2025 by Lexi Kisses

I was about 23 years old when I almost ruined my love for sex toys. I was making great strides overcoming my anxiety with sex in general and as a result I wanted to indulge the sexual deviant that resided inside of me.

So, I decided to get a sex toy.

Oh, but no normal sex toy would do, I was a “deviant” after all. I needed something interesting, something adventurous, something…risky.

That’s when I found Bondage Boutique’s Face strap-on.

This is it! I thought to myself.

What could possibly go wrong? I only went from “too scared to put something inside me” to  “strap a ribbed dildo on my partner’s face, and let me viciously ride them to glory.”

But, logic aside, I let excitement alone rule my purchase and I hit the buy button.

And so it came

As soon as it arrived, I strapped that sucker on my partner and put it to use immediately.

But, there was one issue, I didn’t like it.

The ribbed texture was rough, the material was too hard, and even with lube I found myself drying out.

Intimidated and now discouraged. I tossed it into the draw. Effectively ending my excitement over sex toys.

A month went by and I decided to give a simpler sex toy a chance. This time the toy was the intense ultra bullet, and I opted to use it alone. But still, I didn’t find myself having fun.

Maybe sex toys just aren’t my thing? I thought.

But I thought wrong. It wasn’t the sex toys. It was the specific toys I picked out. I was buying toys that were for advanced users or just plain ole poor quality.

I was so excited to engage in the world of sex toys, I didn’t bother to think of my skill level.

This might sound obvious to some but in that moment I realized there’s a lot more to sex toys than just picking an item off the shelf you’re excited about.

At the time, I didn’t know what to look for, I just knew I wanted something fun.

And it turns out, something fun isn’t always something compatible with you. At least not at first.

So, my advice is when you choose your first sex toy, don’t pick out the most elaborate toy you can find.

I repeat, do not pick out the most elaborate toy you can find.

Since then, I have used bondage boutique’s face strap on with success. So start slow, work up, and one day you’ll get to use the toy you want. Or you might find something else entirely.
