Doc Johnson’s Goodhead Deep Throat Spray – Review

Goodhead Deep Throat Spray Bottle

When I read the word delicious on the box, I was excited to take it home and try it. Did I finally find a flavored sex product that wouldn’t suck? I opened my mouth, held the nozzle facing my throat, and sprayed. Instantly I started gagging as the taste of watermelon flavored medicine filled my mouth and perverted my taste buds. “Oh god,” I thought, “What the fuck did I get myself into.” After fighting my gag reflex, I’m finally here to bring you a review of Doc Johnson’s Goodhead Deep Throat Spray in the flavor Wild Watermelon.

Pricing & Product Details

Goodhead Deep Throat Spray varies in price depending on the retailer, but the prices generally fall into the $10-$16 range for the 2oz size. I paid $14.99 for mine at my local Adam & Eve shop.

Doc Johnson simply states on the front of the box that it’s an oral anesthetic spray. The back of the box contains all the drug & safety facts about the product. Its main active ingredients are benzocaine and glycerin. Benzocaine creates the numbing effect, while glycerin coats and soothes the throat. The product aims to relax and numb your throat, which will help you from gagging while deep throating.

When you take the product out of the box, it’s inside a convenient spray bottle with an extended nozzle to better help you reach the back of your throat. To use it, shake the bottle, open your mouth wide, aim it at the back of your throat, and spray.

How it Differs from other Throat Sprays

When I first saw this product, I thought, “why wouldn’t I just use the sore throat numbing sprays from the drugstore?”, “what makes deep throat so special?” Well, it’s two active ingredients make it special. Most throat sprays on the market contain either benzocaine (numbs the throat) or glycerin (smoothly coats the throat), never both. I’m assuming that the use of both ingredients increases its chances of numbing your gag reflexes.

The Overview

Goodhead Deep Throat Spray Bottle

To test Goodhead Deep Throat Spray, I started giving my partner a regular blowjob, then I sprayed the back of my throat, started a timer, and went to town. I will say one of the best parts of this product is there is no waiting time; as soon as the spray hits your throat, you can feel it begin to numb. I did experience slight burning in the back of my throat at first use but nothing that was incredibly painful. Once numbed, I did find it harder to get myself to gag. Only after repeated attempts of actively trying to gag on my s/o cock did I.

Taste

In case you didn’t catch on from all my snarky comments, I hate the taste of this product. I wouldn’t be so upset about it if they didn’t claim to be a “delicious throat desensitizer.” It takes you by surprise when you’re expecting yummy watermelon and get flavored cough medicine. For some people, this might not be an issue, but for me, the taste of medicine makes me nauseous, so I’m not a fan. Luckily, the flavor does wear off after a bit of time, and it leaves no after taste, but fuck does it taste bad beforehand.

Longevity

The numbing effect is short-lived; after about 5 minutes, I began to be able to feel my gag reflux creeping up again. I would like to fault the product on this, but I can’t because even throat numbing sprays you can buy at the drug store wear off after mere minutes. Once the product wears off, it does freshen your breath like the side of the box says. My mouth felt pleasantly clean, despite it being used right before I brushed my teeth in the morning.

Conclusion

My times with Doc Johnson’s Goodhead Deep Throat Spray are probably over. Even though the product does work and numbs my gag reflex, it only lasts around 5 minutes, and it tastes horrid. I personally don’t mind gagging when deep throating, and nor does my partner, so I see no point in spraying my throat with a nauseating tasting numbing spray. However, that just means I am not the target audience for this spray. If the sensation of gagging bugs you, and you want to ease that discomfort, this product is for you, but if gagging isn’t that big of a deal to you, I recommend passing on it. The way I see it is If you hate it, you can always use it as an emergency method to soothe a sore throat.
